Enlisted: The Evolution of Character

2 Timothy 2:2-4 and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him.

For reasons of practicality, military references and spirituality just work for me.

From what I understand, when a person enlists in the armed forces, it’s a pretty big deal. As in, walking away from your commitment lands you in prison and you get to assume to cool new title of, “Deserter.”

Thankfully, God has way more grace than Uncle Sam, because He is the faithful one when we are faithless. That being said, I do think that often we take our commitments of faith for granted (No one ever has an attitude that God will always forgive us and forget, right?)

Because of this, in matters of faith, we should looking to and have way more in common with the battlefield than universities, marketing companies, or the boardroom. It’s warfighting between flesh and spirit. It is not just an area of study, a fresh angle to pitch, or a ladder to climb.

Your putting your name on the line and making a commitment to someone. And that someone just happens to be the Creator of the universe and a God who loves you. What that commitment means is worth thinking through. I think once a person gets that squared away, the question then needs to be asked: Where do I go from here?

God is so good and provided us the passage below. This is the “Quick and Easy, 8 Surefire Steps to Success in the Christian Faith,” plan.

It’s actually not that easy at all. It may not look intimidating, but it’s demanding, brutal, and without a doubt, whine inducing. Once your enlisted, this is the plan for your development in the Christian Faith.

Know it. Breathe it. Walk it in full confidence because of Him who you have put your trust in.

2 Peter 1:3-8 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I will write some study to each issue in the future under each tab. God Bless.
